Koekjes en cupcakes

Vanaf mijn 12e jaar ben ik gegrepen door het bakvirus. Tot ik in een huis ging wonen waar de oven niet je van het was. Alle baksels storten in... Sinds 2008 heb ik een heerlijk Borettifornuis. Het was of een AGA of een Boretti. De AGA paste net niet, jammer. Je ziet hier chocoladekoekjes. Mini cupcakes, en grote cupcakes met marsepein.

Dus ik bak er weer op los!

There are some weeks, even months when you plan all kinds if things you have to do but at the end of the day, or the week, you have only done half of them. Sometimes life takes just over.

I made some celebrationflags, about 20 bibs in all kind of colors, made also 25 little rice pillows and 10 pair of fleece hot socks and worked at my Josephs Coat Quilt Along too.

Sorry that I don't have pictures. Normally I upload my pictures direct to my Facebook account, i can do that while I'm making the picture at the moment. But FB changed something so I can't download my pics anymore. So no more pics from me at facebook better keep them somewhere else. I think Facebook really sucks but what else to do if you want keep in contact with friends and family oversea.

In stead of quilting and sewing pictures I put some pictures from our balloon hunting last summer. :))

Osdorp Posse - Orgineel Amsterdams

In the eighties I was a big fan of Osdorp Posse. The song is totally in Dutch, and If you understand Duch you find the tekst maybe a little bit rude so if it is I'm very sorry for that. But I want to share some music from my youth with ya all. Funny that my kids and lots of other teenagers love Osdorps Posse to.

In de jaren 80 was ik een grote fan van Osdorps Posse. Liedje is op zijn "Amsterdams" en wellicht vind je de tekst te grof. Sorry daarvoor maar ik wilde graag dit liedje uit mijn jeugd met jullie delen. Vind je het niks gewoon niet op de link klikken. Misschien herken je het en vond je het zelf vroeger ook leuk!

I love dresses. For a few years ago I daily wear them, but pants are more practicle in daily life so I switched over to pants. But I miss wearing my dresses so for 2011 I decided to wear a dress or skirt once a week.
First I have to make some new. But wich one? There is so much choise and I can't make them all.

For that I put here the most amazing flashmobs I found on the internet. Youtube is a great help by finding this amazing flashmobs.

No dance but a freeze flashmob, actually this was the first I ever watched. Before I didn't even know what a flashmob was.

And another crazy one, the no pants sunway ride 2K9. And they do this every year! Did you know there is also a no pants subway ride 2008 and 2010? Just crazy people, they make me laughing till I almost p*** my pants! :)

Greatest Granddad

I'm sorry, I didn't work on my DJ this week. I was just to tired to do DJ also.
But instead I want you to meet my granddad.

My granddad is a real artist. Now in his old days he even give lessons to other people. He don't have his own atelier anymore. He lives alone the couple years and nobody is nagging about him making a mess so he was turning his entire(!) house into his atelier! I love to be with him in his house, or should I say atelier? He has mayor problems with his lungs most of the time but he's still going on. My granddad is the greatest!

This is one of his paintings, or actually this is only a study of a painting.

Reusing Vinyl Records into a Bowl

Preheat your oven at 190 celcius of 330 Fahrenheit.
Place the vinyl record in the middle of your oven.

Don't let it melt. It most be hot but not so hot that the vinyl melt.

When its so hot that the vinyl is very soft and shapeble take it out of the oven. I don't use oven mitts but if you don't want to burn your hands please use them.

Place the vinyl record on a up side down bowl. Shape the record, you can do that a s long as the record is hot enough. Not ready and the vinyl record is to cold to shape? Put it back in the oven for about 30 to 60 seconds than you can reshape it easely. Made a mistake? Just put it back in the oven for a while, and then reshape again. :)

You can use this bowl for serving potatoe chips of candy or fruits.

Ofcourse I use mine for fabrics. :)

First I want to say that my mom is very sick. She is diagnosed by lung cancer and she can't get better so I don't blog so much. She was in hospital but wanted to go home dearly. So today she is coming home.We are very busy taking care of mom and later on I'll have more time to visit all your kind blogs and websites.
Mijn moeder is erg ziek. Er is longkanker bij haar geconstateerd en ze wordt niet meer beter. Ze lag in het ziekenhuis maar wilde perse naar haar eigen huis. Dus vandaag komt ze weer thuis. Nu is er dus niet zoveel tijd om al jullie leuke blogs en websites te bezoeken maar als ik meer tijd heb kom ik weer gezellig langs hoor!

Last year I made a blue summer dress with big white dots on it. I don't know why but I only wear it one time.
Today it's gonna be a warm and sunny day and I just refound my dress somewhere in the back of my closet. With some lovely espadrilles creating a summerlook. So look what I'm wearing today.

I'll think the first gives the right match. But I love the white Tommy Hilfiger Shoes too.

New Phone

A few days ago I purchased a new phone.
I not a person that buys a new phone every year.
I will take you to a tour. You'll see the phones I owned.
This one was my first, I think it was in 1992 but it could be 1 year earlier because I'm not quite sure. It was a really big one. When I want to take it with me in my little bag I had to take of the antenne!At this one you see that the antenne is shortened.

Then I got this one, everybody was laughing out loud when my old big phone was ringing and it was time to get a new one.(I thought this was the Nokia 3310)

In 2001 or 2002 I purchased this one. It was great because I could connect it with my palmtop and the GPRS from my phone connect with the citymaps of my palmtop. Wow I had my own Gadwinsytem with this!
I really loved this phone because it had infra-red so it could talk to my laptop. I could swap with it and email and it even had bluetooth. It was a very good phone and it is still working. But it had bluetooth1 and everything else has now a days bluetooth 2 so it can't connect anymore. My palmtop died years ago and is replaced by a notebook and I have a little gadwinsystem for in my car, I have cards to travel trough whole Europe. And the emailfunction doesn't work anymore because my provider doesn't support that function for this phone anymore. So after 8 or 9 years it was time for a new one.

And a few days ago this 3G 5230 phone . I LOVE IT!!! First I was looking for the HTC mini but I'm a Nokia lover so it was Nokia again. (And it has internet, email and citymaps, isn't it awesome!) How long would this one last?

DIY Home Made Yoghurt

I saw this recipe at Emma's Red Velvet Blog. So you can make your own yoghurt.

For the Dutch readers I put another yoghurt recipe. Voor Nederlandse lezers een iets ander yoghurt receptje.

Wat heb je nodig:
Melk (Als je volle yoghurt wilt neem volle melk. Voor halvolle yoghurt neem halfvolle melk.)
Verse gewone yoghurt
Lege fles of pot
Pan
Huishoudfolie
Keukenthermometer

Voor veel yoghurt heb je ook veel melk nodig maar om uit te proberen beginnen met 100 ml. Zo kan je ontdekken of het lukt en of je het lekker vind.
Melk in de pan en verwarm het tot 85 graden, wel blijven roeren.
Laat de melk weer afkoelen tot 40 graden.
Meng 2 theelepeltjes yoghurt door de melk. Als je meer yoghurt wilt maken is die twee theelepeltjes ook genoeg. De yoghurt zorgt ervoor dat de reactie in gang word gezet zodat de melk word omgezet tot yoghurt. Als je nu heel veel yoghurt wil maken doe er dan 1 of 2 lepeltjes extra bij om het proces goed op gang te laten komen
Zet dit op een warme plek, het is de bedoeling dat het ongeveer 40 graden blijft. Hier moet het 18 tot 24 uur blijven staan.
Bewaar de yoghurt na die tijd in de koelkast of op een koude plek.Zo voorkom je doorzuring.
En joepie!!! Je hebt Yoghurt!! Wil je vruchtenyoghurt, doe er dan wat aardbeien of bramen in. Aardbeien kan je zelfs kweken binnen of op je balkonnetje.Zo heb je goedkoop heerlijke yoghurt gemaakt.

Making old coasters new and modern.

How do you give your old coasters a new and modern look.

This is how you do it:

Look in all your cabinets for old ugly coasters.
Take a nice piece of fabric of a paper with a beautiful print.
Draw circles on the fabric or paper.

Then take your own home made look-a-like modge podge glue.

Glue the coasters wel.

Put the fabric or papers on it and glue the edges extra.

Let it dry. If you want you can add something extra on your coasters. I did some Dutch mills and wooden shoes.

Let it dry.

Then put some glue all over your coasters and let it dry again.

Here are your beautiful new modern looking coasters.

Home Made Modge Podge Look-a-Like Glue

Home Made Modge Podge Look-a-Like
1 3/4 Cup of water, 1/4 Cup of sugar, 1/4 Teaspoon (cinnamon) oil , 1/4 Cup flour (no matter wich you choose), 1/2 Teaspoon alum (powdered)
Put the sugar, flour and alum in a pan.
Add 1 cup water and keep stirring.
Boil it until clear and smooth but keep on stirring. Remove it from the heat.
Add water and oil. Use less water if you want more thickness. Stir until its mixed well.
Store your own home made glue in glass container with airtight lid.

Home Made Modge Podge Look-a-Like with some shine:
White glue, I use cheap glue voor wood and some water
Take 3 Cups of glue on 1 Cup of water or less but always use 3 to 1. (3:1)
Put some water, not to much and see if the thickness of the glue is ok for you.
Than add 2 theespoon of vernis( it has to be waterbased). Stirr it. Then put your home made glue in a glass container with an airtight lid.

Modge Podge Look-a-Like met wat glans:
Meng 3 delen witte lijm (goedkope houtlijm volstaat) op 1 deel water. (Dus 3 staat tot 1)
Voeg naar eigen inzicht water toe om de gewenste textuur en de dikte te krijgen.
Voeg 2 theelepels vernis (op waterbasis) toe voor de glans. Bewaar je zelfgemaakte lijm in een glazen pot met luchtdicht deksel.

Home Made Modge Podge Look-a-Like:
1/4 kopje suiker,
1/4 kopje bloem maakt niet uit welke,
1/2 theelepel gepoederde aluin,
1 3/4 kopje water,
1/4 theelepel olie (kaneelolie),
Doe suiker, bloem en aluin in een pan. Voeg geleidelijk aan 1 kop water toe, blijf roeren om klonten te verwijderen. Kook tot de substantie maar blijf roeren. Haal van het vuur en voeg water en olie toe. Gebruik minder water voor een dikkere lijm. Roer tot het goed is gemengd. Bewaar je zelfgemaakte lijm in een pot met luchtdichte deksel.

A few days ago I promessed you more DJ blocks. Well I worked very hard last week. But first of all I want you to show how I choose the colors for my DJ blocks.
I made a schedule and every time I pick for blocks I want to make. Then I pick the color for these 4 blocks. On my schedule I glue a little piece of fabric when I'm done.

Recently I won a bike. I won it at a National Lotery. It was also on tv but I didn't vieuw so I missed it. Then my neighbor told me that the whole street who joined the National Lotery has won a bike.
It's a cuty but it will take about 8 weeks before I receive my brand new bike.

Koninginnedag: Queen's day? Orange Craze?

Queen's day, or Koninginnedag as we call it, is a national holiday in the Netherlands. On this day we celebrate the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands. Although it's original the birthday of Queen Juliana (the mother of Queen Beatrix she past away a few years a go), not of Queen Beatrix, we celebrate her birthday on 30 April. Our Queen Beatrix birthday is on the 31th January, but winter isn't the time to party outside. Because of this, Queen Beatrix officially celebrates her birthday on 30 April, so we can party with (hopefully) better weather! Isn't our Queen lovely?

Queen's Day is also a typical occasion for the world-famous Orange Craze. On this day most of the people wear orange clothing and creative orange accessories. The colour orange is a ubiquitous sight, referring to the name of our royal family, the House of Orange. Everywhere in the city you'll see orange banners, orange colored foods and drinks. So don't forget your orange t-shirt when you join us in the Orange Craze!!!

Koninginnenacht: The night before, Queen's Night!

Because the Dutch people just like to party, we start celebrating Queen's Day already on the evening of the day before! Usually at 7 p.m. and we go on until the early hours of the Queen's Day. We call evening (and night) Koninginnenacht, Queen's Night. All the clubs in Amsterdam, The Hague and other big cities organize special festivities. Some of the best are outside and completely free for everyone! Especially for the young people this is the night to be in Amsterdam ot The Hague. Amsterdam and The Hague is very busy that night as many young people move across the city from one party to another, while others prepare the next day market, the so called freemarket!

Red Sun by Volcanic Ash

The weather channels forecasted a ‘red-sun’ in the evening of 16 april 2010 en also 17 april 2010 due to Volcanic ash in the upper atmosphere, coming from the erupted Icelandic Volcano in the Eyjafjallajoekull area a few days before.

All flights in and out of the Netherlands have been suspended as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.

Safety body Eurocontrol said up to 4,000 flights across northern Europe had so far been affected by the cloud.The Air Traffic Control Service said no flights would be allowed in or out of the Netherlands airspace for now.
The airspace restriction was the most significant in living memory, a spokesman said.
Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark were among the European countries hit.
The restrictions were imposed after the Met Office warned the ash was sufficient to clog engines.
Passengers were advised to contact their carriers prior to travel.
Experts have warned that the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud would be sufficient to jam aircraft engines.

Every sunday I try to work on my Dear Jane. I already did some more but I show you that later. Every sunday I will show you what I alreade made or have made the sunday before.
I think jane Stickle did an amazing job with all those tiny pieces. The blocks I make are far for perfect but I do like to improve my skills with making this wonderfull quilt. Another quilter told that Jane was a black lady and that it was hard to get her fabrics for her quilt. Is that true?, I never read this before?!?

I love Scheveningen. We stayed a couple of days in the Carlton Beach Hotel. First I show you the room and below you find some nice pictures from my walk along the beach at 06:20 till 7:10 in the morning. It's such nice to see how the light changes from night till day. The pictures look darker than it actually was. That because I used my flashlight.

DJ Again/ Opnieuw begonnen met Sjaantje

Started my Dear Jane, for the 3th time. The first one was a falure, the blocks were made crap and were falling apart even by looking at them. The second try was a scrappy DJ. But non of the colors matched and it looked awefull.

Finally I started my 3th DJ, a green one. The tiny blocks are diificult to make but I love to work on it. I used a previous block M1 that I made on 9 july 2009 because its a nice block. So my start will be that date.

My first block looks horrible. I printed the wrong scales and my block was to tiny!!! I didn't want to redo it so I ajust a little piece of background fabric on it to make it the right size.

Voor de derde keer begonnen aan mijn Dear Jane.De eerste was een complete mislukking. De blokken waren zo waardeloos gemaakt dat ze al uit lekaar vielen als je er naar keek. :( De tweede, moest een scrappy DJ worden. Scrappy was het maar niet gelet op de verdeling van de kleuren en kleurtonen en de paar rijen die ik al had zagen er qua kleurstelling afschuwelijk uit.

Met veel moed begonnen aan mijn derde poging. Hoofdkleur groen. Blijft moeilijk om die kleine blokjes te maken maar het blijft heerlijk om aan te werken.

Mijn eerste blok zag er zo uit. I printte op de verkeerde maten en het blok werd veel te klein!!! Ik wilde geen nieuw blok maken dus ik heb achtergrond stof aan de zijkanten gemaakt om het passend te maken.
